# 318 "Backyard Garden"

Original oil on panel, 6"x 6"

"Backyard Garden", by Debi Hinshaw

I have not uploaded anything new on my blog since March.  Where does time go?
There have been many changes in my personal life which have included making some adjustments, one big change is I have much more time to paint now.  My biggest obstacle is myself and my confidence.  I feel like I paint every day but I am seldom happy with the result.  I wonder if I am normal in that area?  I think I struggle with values, composition, brushwork and keeping a painting fresh and loose.  I decided once again to venture outside and try my hand at plein air painting.  I am for now staying close to home and hoping to practice often.  I am spending time reading books watching the videos on painting I have aquired and practicing often.  This small painting is of a view of the neighbors side yard.  I made my way outside early this moring to start this one.  I managed to finsh it in about an hour and a half.  It was fun to paint outside I think I will try it again tomorrow.

Beautiful work Debi! I love your brushstrokes within the foliage and great values.
I feel the same in regards to confidence, I hope it is normal too. I look forward to seeing more!

This is wonderful and fresh , love the flowers /vegetation and how you made the house look distant. I am rarely satisfied with any of my works, I think it is very normal, we are our own severest critics .

Thank you so much Celia and Jane, I appreciate very much you comments and support! It is good to know I am not alone in my thoughts. Many days I feel very frustrated, however I know it is actual process of painting that I love so much!

Thank you again both of you!!
